The importance of land acknowledgements with Kohkom Beverly Keeshig-Soonias
Просмотров 352 месяца назад
"Things are different now. The fish taste different. The animals are migrating differently." A land acknowledgement is not only about physical land - like the soil, and the ground under our feet. It’s so much more than that. Kohkom Beverly Keeshig-Soonias, the Chair of the Indigenous Peoples' Psychology Section of the CPA, joins Mind Full to talk about the centuries of Indigenous tradition that...
Gender inclusion in science: why and how to
Просмотров 302 месяца назад
For too long, scientific studies have been cisnormative. For a researcher working with a sample of 1,000 people that include 496 women and 498 men, how do they represent the other 6? Konrad Czechowski and Misha Khorkhordina have set out to find a way. On this week's Mind Full, they share their study results, talk terminology, and provide something of a guide for researchers looking to be truly ...
Detransitioning: separating fact from fiction
Просмотров 983 месяца назад
A lot of the furor over the rights of trans, non-binary, and other gender-diverse people has centered around the idea of 'detransitioning'. That people who transition from the gender they were assigned at birth end up regretting that decision and transitioning back. Today, Dr. Françoise Susset and Dr. Jesse Bossé explain the data on detransitioning, the truth about regrets, and the reality the ...
Cisnormativity in healthcare with Dr. Jesse Bossé and Dr. Francoise Susset

Canada's healthcare system, and most Western healthcare systems, have long been cisnormative. Meaning that they are run by cisgender people, based on science that was conducted primarily with cisgender people, with methods that have not sought to include trans, non-binary, or other gender diverse folks. We talk with Dr. Jesse Bossé and Dr. Françoise Susset about the reasons for this, and the di...

Psychology Month: Sustainable Happiness with Dr. Jiaying Zhao

So much of the talk when it comes to the climate crisis is doom and gloom. It's hard for many not to become a little defeatist or to throw their hands up and ignore the problem. The solution to that kind of despair is action - little actions that move us all toward a more sustainable future. And those actions - and the conversation about them - can be a happy one! I have ASD and DCD. I always thought everyone had a hard time doing physical things through the day, or they just hid it better. I just thought I was worse at things then others, but never understood why. I am injured all the time. My hands don't work well. I've had poor job performance marks for my penmanship. When I had to do makeup and get ready for work, it took me hours to get ready. Every day, I know I am going to spill something, break something and/or get hurt. I didn't walk until I was 3.5 years old. I have very heavy massive furniture, because I am hard on furniture. I have to wear shoes in the house. I've injured/broken toes because I stub my toes/catch them on things as I walk past. I bump into people, mostly passing through doorways. I bump into things a lot. I have to be careful when I bend down, so I don't hit my face/head on something. I have gotten terrible glasses several times, because they are too fast trying to focus/decide which lens is better; when getting my perscription. They rush you, and it takes time to focus. I am 61. It has not gotten better. I was born premi. Under 4 lbs.

Isn't it the case that those puberty blockers are now showing to come with may side-effects and to be not quite as reversible as we thought they were ? And also don't we need puberty to happen for proper brain and body maturation and development in order for the gender journey of a child to happen ?

The CPA have proven themselves to be corrupt, they must be dismantled, the absolutist fashion in which they are pushing for socialism will only end with the poorest being starved to death. The world will fight back against woke totalitarianism, the top down professorship will be the first to be taken. Ignore at your peril Canadians - you must stand up & to recover your once great country, before your leadership, your universities destroy you for ever, you already fall way below your potential since the covid lockdowns, predictions are that you will be far worse in 10 years.

First 40seconds filled with language like 'gender affirming care' - pretty concerning that the CPA uses this terminology & therefore trivializing hormone therapy & sex-change operations. Call a spade a spade, so that in 2033, only people like Sara transition, not other minors who are going through a phase in puberty.

Hi I'm a transwoman. I have to be honest, seeing lia thomas go from 65th place pre transition to 1st nationallyin the 500 free plus some of the strength studies , I've come to the conclusion that there is a residual advantage if transition starts after puberty. Still, some trans allies have argued that Michael phelps was celebrated for his advantages. This argument fails to acknowledge that being born male is very common as one out of two are born male. On the other hand Michael's genetics are very very rare. Another argument i've heard is that other women in the tournament are physically better than a transwoman participant. This argument also fails to acknowledge that based on the facts i pointed out above that show a residual advantage, said participant placed in a higher position than if they had skipped male puberty by being on blockers or were born female. They may not have evemade the tournament at all. Another way of poking holes in this argument is that it would exclude lebron james from going to the wnba if he transitioned while allowing a more mediocre basketball player to join. It actually rewards mediocrity People in general have a sense of fairness and they will never support this. Women as a whole have supported us more than men This issue has driven a wedge between us and cis women In my opinion, the obliviousness lia thomas had to their advantage along with surgeries on minors has given the anti trans lobby the perfect vehicle to breed outrage against the trans community as a whole and falsely frame it as if transpeople are privileged. All of the laws and boycotts masterminded by well funded anti trans entities, have in part been given wings due to these fringe rights It was not easy for me to accept this reality as it feeds into the false narrative that transition does little to feminize the body. This is one of the reasons the anti trans advocates are so focused on this issue. Another other reason being the more sexist motive which is the desire by reactionaries to bring light to an impolite topic that "women are weaker than men". Another reason being the political capital the right gets in falsely framing the left as supporting this. There are way more better hills to die on like pushing for more trans visibility in media, bathrooms which we have no choice but to use. Lastly, Sara, that you were surprised about the backlash shows an amazing amount of disconnect from the current social climate against transpeople. Sara you seem like a bright light in the trans community and i wish you would have used your capital in less devisive ways.

Joel Paris was always ahead of the curve when it came to this issue, but his book "overdiagnosis in psychiatry", although an important contribution to his thought (as depicted in a few books) did not really nail down the reasons for the dilemma. I'm surprised that people are still speaking of chemical imbalances or serotonin as the sole central causal issue producing depression.

To end the war the discoveries of the nature of addiction, God and money need to be revealed. What is not understood? I am a psychologist, economist and thinker and i am suffering the most severe censorship in history. The lives of your children depend on knowledge being known. The brain disease of addiction doesn't exist, it is a lie. I honestly don't know how to talk anymore because humanity don't understand prose or verse, nothing, zero. Addiction is the psychology of a liar. We all are addicts and some lie more and some less. Is it possible that parents who are losing their addicted children reject the truth that would save them all?
